Legendary Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Is Just “One of The Guys”
As a relatively new member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been surprising his coach and all of his new teammates with his unmatched, passionate love for football and friendly attitude.
With his multitude of impressive achievements, such as holding the record for the lowest career interception percentage at 1.4 percent, leading the Green Bay Packers to victory in the Super Bowl, and being named the Super Bowl MVP in the same year, many of his new Steeler teammates were intimidated by Rodgers. As Mike Jones writes for the New York Times, “Many of them grew up watching him and had admired him from afar, but really didn’t know what to make of him.” Rodgers shocked some of the players with his friendly, “just one of the guys” approach to greeting them. “He’s a good dude,” remarks teammate Skylar Thompson in an interview by the New York Times, “cares about his teammates, holds people accountable.”
Something else that surprised many of his new teammates was how passionate his love for football was. “He has a love affair with this game — one that he’s willing to share with others,” declared Steelers coach Mike Tomlin in the same interview. At almost forty-two years of age, the oldest quarterback and NFL player in general, Rodgers is playing almost purely for his love of the sport.
Currently, the Steelers are stuck in a purgatory without a playoff win in eight seasons and need Rodgers to turn things around for them. According to the New York Times, Coach Tomlin and the rest of the Steelers hope that the legendary quarterback can help them get through this obstacle and win them their first AFC Championship Game since 2016 and their first Super Bowl since 2010.
