Three Lexington teachers received Grammy nominees for outstanding music education in June 2025.
Specifically, the three teachers, Jessica Billings-White, Rachel Jayson, and Sarah Labrie, have been nominated quarterfinalists for the 2025 Grammy Music Educator Award. Jayson and Bilings-White conduct orchestras, and Labrie teaches piano, music theory and vocal.
The reason these three teachers were nominated is their strong bond with students, their ability to anticipate their needs, and their commitment to their best interests. Also, they bring so much enthusiasm and passion to schools.
Furthermore, teachers themselves are really honorable to be nominated. Bilings-White said, “To be included alongside outstanding educators like Mx. Jayson and Ms. Labrie is truly humbling, as I hold both of them in the highest regard. I’ve always admired their work and never imagined myself being recognized on the same level.”
“It also gives me a renewed confidence in my teaching,” Labrie said.
The three educators also stated what they gained throughout their teaching sessions here in Lexington.
Labrie claims she grows every single year. Being an educator is very challenging at first, but she is willing to reflect her challenges and is fortunate to teach “a wide range of musical disciplines, vocal, instrumental, and general, across multiple grade levels and communities.”
Billings-White is satisfied to watch students grow over many years.“ Not many teachers can turn to a senior and say, ‘Remember when you started in 4th grade? ‘Hot Cross Buns’ felt nearly impossible, look at you now,’” she said. “That continuity and perspective are such a gift.”
Labrie added that the success is impossible without collaborations in the departments.
“I think these awards really highlight the fact that Lexington is a very special community. This is a district that really values the arts, really supports the arts, [and] celebrates the arts.”Angela Carpenter, LPS Performing Arts Coordinator said.
Labrie is also looking forward to continue teaching in Lexington, hopefully making music and the community better.
