10-year-old girl joins Royal Ballet School
Jessica, who is a 10-year-old ballet dancer from Norfolk, has just gotten some super thrilling news: she has just gotten a spot into a prestigious ballet training class run by the well-known Royal Ballet School. Every year, the Royal Ballet School’s Junior Associate Programme, which was created in 1948, trains a small number of gifted young ballerinas alongside their normal classes.
Jessica has been doing ballet ever since she was four years old, and she wants to be the next Darcey Bussell – the Strictly judge and former dancer. Jessica said to BBC Norfolk that she “jumped up and down and cried” when she got the great news.
Jessica loved dancing at a very young age. She was only four when she asked her mom if she could sign up for a dance class. “My legs just wanted to move. I did watch Strictly Come Dancing when I was younger, and I was just wow. I want to do that.” Jessica told BBC Norfolk.
Since then, she has been practicing a lot. “I just feel special. I just feel in my comfort zone, and I just feel relaxed.” Jessica said that when she was asked about what she feels when doing ballet.
Every year, the Royal Ballet School’s Junior Associate Programme only has a few spots open for young ballerinas. This means that there is a lot of competition. There were over 2,000 people at Jessica’s audition. So, when she figured out that she got a place, she “jumped up and down and cried”, and was “blown away”.
A speaker for the Royal Ballet School said that they were happy to welcome Jessica to the training programme. Her ballet teacher told Jessica that she has the skill to go “as far as she likes” with dancing and that her “technique is beautiful. In the future, Jessica might be able to be a professional ballerina!
