Last week, a group of young people sued the state Montana for not taking action on climate change for our future generations. The trials have already begun last week and the results of it can affect the actions of governments around the globe.

16 young people varying from ages six to 22 has brought up the case. A group named “Our Children Trust” supports them, who has brought up similar cases in other states. But those has never been run into a trial.

The constitution for Montana is different than most of the other states. The state’s constitution claims that everyone has the right to a “clean and healthful environment”. That’s also a reason why this case is heading towards the court.

The group says Montana is not being responsible because they have not banned the usage of fossil fuels and they have added hugely to the ongoing climate crisis.

The state’s government argues that it’s not fair for the young people to blame Montana for the effects of climate change, since it’s not their fault, but a more global problem.

Can you add in a direct quote from the government about this unfairness? If you can find one

The case is being observed by other groups that are hoping to force governments to take stronger action on global warming. If the youngsters win, it could encourage other groups to bring similar cases and help the environment.
