Word Abbreviation takes over Emojis for Texts and Word Play

Nowadays, teenagers have abandoned emojis for word abbreviation. Emojis used to be a common way of communicating between teens, but abbreviation turns out to be a more popular way of communicating between teenagers nowadays.

There are many different kinds of emojis. For example, “the goat emoji” means, greatest of all times. “The octopus emoji” means cuddles or a symbol of love. “The emoji peach” means that there is a person behind you or a butt. According to Game Quitters, emojis were created by Shigetaka Kurita in 1999.

Some emojis are more symbolic and others are used literally.

Some other emojis such as faces, usually mean what the emoji expresses. A grinning one emoji would mean showing joy towards something positive. A rolling on the floor emoji is often used when someone cracks a hilarious joke.

Zac Nowytarger, age 12, has heard that most of his friends ditched emojis and said that it was time for them to go. “Emojis have gotten older and even though word abbreviation does not show much emotion in a text, emojis are not really used much, so there is no point in keeping them.” says Zac.

Now that teens have chosen word abbreviation, here is a few. APT. stands for apartment. EST. represents established. One that is commonly used by teenagers is BRB., which means be right back. LOL means laugh out loud. And GTG means got to go.

Others like, BTW: by the way. And DWBH: Don’t worry, be happy. One message that was used to actually text someone is, “OMG DID U C? LOL, TTYL…L8R.”
