Russia claims that Ukraine launched at least 3 drones. Two of them hit a building in Moscow. The other drone was intercepted before it reached Moscow. According to Moscow’s Mayor, there were no injuries, but he posted a video showing destroyed windows in a skyscraper in the city.
This attack was the third attack on Russia in that week. This just proves that neither Russia nor Ukraine will leave this war unscathed. Russia claims Ukraine planned the attack, but Ukraine is yet to reply.
The skyscraper damaged in the most recent attack was called Moscow City, a symbol of President Putin’s improvement of the Russian economy in the years before the invasion. The attack proved the tide of the war is changing as the number of drone attacks against Moscow ramped up.
Although the Ukrainian Government rarely admits to any military action done against Russia, Ukrainian senior officers admitted that the most recent drone strikes on Russia were done by Ukraine. In an evening address, the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky stated, “Gradually, the war is returning to the territory of Russia,” Mr. Zelensky thought it was fair that Ukraine brought the war to Russia. “This is an inevitable, natural, and absolutely fair process,” he said in the same address. President Zelensky was likely doing this as revenge for the recent Russian bombings of Odesa, a city on the Black Sea. Odesa is very important to Ukraine culturally, historically, and economically. Additionally, during the grueling bombing of Odessa, over a million people were put in danger.
Ukraine has also been accused of attacking Russian-occupied Crimea. Moscow even claimed that on Sunday, Ukraine orchestrated a huge wave of drones, attacking air bases and oil facilities. Although the Ukrainian attacks are much more common now, no deaths have been caused. Russian bombings and drone strikes were much more substantial and targeted civilians. This most likely justified the drone strikes that Ukraine has done to Russia.
The drone strikes on Russia have not happened for a long time with the first one happening in early May, by attacking the Kremlin Compound. This was followed by attacks on an elite neighborhood in Moscow. In July, there were at least 3 separate attacks planned by Kyiv. This caused some panic as the high-end citizens of Moscow never expected the war in Ukraine to reach over 500 miles deep into Russia. The citizens of Moscow are now criticizing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine because of the immense economic damage and tens of thousands of deaths.
