As every Barbie fanatic knows, the signature colour of Barbie is pink.

In fact, they used so much pink paint on the Barbie movie that they caused a shortage of pink paint.

“The world ran out of pink,” production designer Sarah Greenwood said.

Greenwood said the construction of the Pink- themed buildings and structures in Barbie Land caused an international shortage of pink Rosco paint.

Rosco is known in the movie industry for supplying the movie and entertainment industry with products like scenic paints, color filters and other equipment, including certain tints of paint specifically formulated for the cameras.

Lauren Proud, Rosco’s vice president of global marketing, said on Friday, June 2nd, that “they used as much paint as we had.”

To be fair, when they first started, there wasn’t much paint to begin with. The company was still recovering from the 2021 Texas freeze that damaged crucial ingredients of the paint, and thus made it even more difficult to manufacture the paint that was needed for the Barbie dreamhouse.

“The freeze had also spoiled millions of gallons of paint, as well as the equipment needed to make the paint” Henry Cowen, national sales manager for Rosco’s Live Entertainment division, said.

Even so, Proud, the company vice president, said Rosco did its best to supply them with paint.

“There was this shortage, and then we gave them everything we could — I don’t know if they can claim credit,” Proud said, before acknowledging: “They did clean us out on paint.”

So, if you’re planning to recreate the Barbie Dreamhouse in real life, you might want to think twice before buying a few hundred —possibly thousands — of gallons, think again. Let’s see you carry 2,000 gallons of paint to a remote wasteland. Oh, and you also need to hire a construction crew of a few dozen people and a somewhat good knowledge of construction, which means you need to get yourself a construction degree, which means graduating college. Which adds up to about… 27 million dollars! Totally affordable, right? Especially if you’re Elon Musk.
