On July 24, 2022, the St. Louis Cardinals went to Toronto to face the Blue Jays. Unfortunately, two key players were unable to go. So why did they get rejected?
The two players from the Cardinals are Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt. The reason why they got rejected was because they were not fully vaccinated against Covid-19. The Canadian government doesn’t allow people who didn’t get their second dose of the vaccine to enter the country.
Austin Romine will also miss the game because of Canada’s Covid-19 policy. All of the players who miss the game will be put on a restricted list and will not be paid to play, according to an agreement between Major League Baseball and the player’s association.
Since these three players did not contribute in these two games, they will lose lots of money. Arenado will lose $384,416, Goldschmidt will lose $241,758, and Romine will lose $10,989. Since three players will be missing, there will need to be replacements for all of them. The replacements will be by catcher Ivan Herrera, outfielder Conner Capel, and infielder Cory Spangenberg.
