Sydney McLaughlin is an American hurdler and sprinter who recently broke the world record for 400-meter hurdles. She is also a 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medalist and is currently 23 years old.
Jonathan Liew writing The Guardian, wrote of McLaughlin’s extensive achievements, “It’s 2022. Sydney McLaughlin is 22. She crosses the line and sits down on the track. There are no wild celebrations or overt displays of emotion. Maybe she’s simply stunned at the fact that she’s just run a world 400m hurdles final in a time that would have earned seventh place in the final of the 400m flat.”
McLaughlin felt challenged every time she got ready to race. She knew she would face tough competition when competing against other runners with a long list of impressive achievements. However, the athlete has taken her skill to a different level in the last few years. She has continuously broken world records and beat her rivals, and she has pushed past the boundaries of what she had accomplished and did what was possible in her career.
The famous hurdler grew up in central New Jersey and was a teenage prodigy in her school. She broke Dalilah Muhammad’s record in 2021 and the U.S. Olympic trials. McLaughlin broke it again in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, finishing first, while Muhammad finished second.
McLaughlin continuously proved that she was a natural runner. She was broken several world records and is currently the fastest hurdler for 400m hurdles. In the past few years, she has climbed her way, step by step, to the top of the running community.
