Through educational institutions, the dictator of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is developing a new generation of Kremlin allies. He intends to implement significant curricular revisions that will make the Russian Federation president an “important historical figure.”

The New York Times reports that starting in the first grade, kids all around Russia will attend courses once a week during which they will see documentaries about the conflict, and take virtual field trips to Crimea.

All Russian children will be urged to join a new “patriotic youth movement,” modeled after the Soviet pioneers in red ties, under a law that the head of the Kremlin has signed. Putin will personally lead this organization.

The Russian Kremlin hopes to instill in a student’s military and anti-Western interpretation of history through reforms to schooling that will be made countrywide beginning in September. This implies that Kremlin-friendly propaganda seeks to crush any potential future opposition among Russians to Putin’s next move.

Almost all anti-war activists have already been imprisoned or sent into exile; the last vestiges of independent journalism in Russia have been criminalized; professors, bloggers, and even a hockey player with questionable allegiances have come under pressure.
