Last Friday, June 24, the Supreme Court made the decision to overturn Roe V. Wade, the legal right to an abortion in the United States. Now, large requests for abortion pills are flowing in to organizations that provide the pills to patients.
The Food and Drug Administration has authorized abortion pills, also known as medication abortion, to use in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy.
Medication abortion is also a popular choice for patients because they are usually much cheaper than surgical abortions and they allow more privacy, as they can be taken at home.
There are around five states and about eleven more states to come that ban all forms of abortion, even medication abortion, which is a struggle for patients wanting to recieve abortions.
Just the Pill, a non-profit organization that provides abortion pills to patients, has already provided more than 2,500 appointments with doctors to supply patients living in abortion-banned states with medication abortion.
Another organization, called; “Abortion Delivered”, provides surgical abortions to patients in states like Texas and Oklohoma by operating on state borders.
Although abortions are now illegal in many states, patients are still trying other ways to get abortion like using medication abortion and recieving pills through the mail or driving to other states to get abortions.
