Schools in England are stopping physical activities because of blasting heatwaves, and some classes have moved to nearby churches to cool off as students are learning.

Students are even sometimes given some cool treats to cool them off. Instead of their normal uniforms, schools are letting students wear their P.E kits because it is lighter. Teachers wanted schools to check the weather because they can’t take the heat either. The highest temperature as of now is 104F, as reported in the forecast.

The unlucky ones in England and Wales are stuck at school during a massive heat wave going off the charts while Scotland and Northern Ireland are on their summer breaks.

Along with teachers helping students, the government has also been suggesting that students wear sunscreen, stay hydrated, and stay in the shade to be safe from the sun. In this Newsround article it says, “[o]vens have been banned in food technology lessons at King Charles I Primary School in Worcestershire, while Burnopfield Primary School in Durham told us they brought in an ice cream van to hand out free freezing treats to all pupils. Hartford Manor Primary School and Nursery in Cheshire has taken hot food off the lunchtime menu today – and catering staff have been given cooling neck fans to wear.”

Some students are not happy with the banning of physical activities, saying, “[w]e had to stay in the shade, we couldn’t play football and weren’t able to even run in case we got too hot!” But some weren’t as bad, like “[n]ine-year-old Evie from Doncaster told the BBC PE lessons at her school had been cancelled. She said playtime is “a bit boring, but I understand that if we do run, we will get really tired and hot and sweaty.”
