In November 2020, the famous football legend Maradona died of a heart attack while in Buenos Aires at 60 years old. It seems that he had also been recovering from surgery on a brain blood clot earlier. A few days later, Argentinian prosecutors started an investigation into the people that took care of him.

According to the court, Maradona would have a better chance of surviving if he had appropriate treatment in a better medical facility. Many people wanted to press charges against Maradona’s neurosurgeon and doctor, Leopoldo Luque. The neurosurgeon was also a psychiatrist, and the other was a psychologist, in addition to another two nurses and their boss. But all of them have denied their responsibility for Maradona’s death.

All eight will be tried on a definition of homicide committed on the knowledge that it may kill someone. According to the Argentinean penal code, this crime can have a sentence to eight of 25 years in prison, which depends on how each person provides evidence, and so far, the trial date has not been set.

A lawyer of one of Maradona’s sons told Reuters that he couldn’t really be helped when he had the heart attack. But two of Maradona’s daughters wrote a complaint that raised concerns about their father’s death, and his treatment after the doctors did the brain operation.

In an interview with Maradona’s doctor, Dr. Luque, he emotionally said that he had done all he could to help him. He even said that he was not responsible for his death, but for loving him, taking care of him, extending his life, and made it better in the end. This was really a sad moment.

The news of his death stunned the entire football world, and his home country, Argentina. Thousands of football fans and many other people waiting to walk by his coffin at the presidential palace.

Since his death, demands from many who asked about his treatment grew up to the extremes.

Those who got into the walk beside the coffin were outpouring respect and sadness as thousands of people walked beside the coffin crying.

Many people said that it was far too early to say goodbye to him. But these charges probably will also provide the answers to how one of the greatest football legends died tragically.
