What? A new star? It’s the fastest one? I’m confused. So, I was just lounging around and I heard you screaming about a new star or something. Wait! Before you close this article, WHICH I KNOW YOU MIGHT BE DOING RIGHT NOW, please read this because it is very interesting and it won’t make you fall asleep. So, as I was saying, scientists have found a new star rotating around the Sagittarius-A black hole, and believe me, this star is fast!

S4716

Hold up! What are these random letters and numbers? Well, that is the star’s name. This star is faster than you think. It may be the fastest thing in the universe, unless there is something we don’t yet know about. The key word is yet. Anyways, this star was discovered by the University of Cologne and Masaryk University: “A total of five telescopes were needed to observe the star, with four of these five being combined into one large telescope to allow even more accurate and detailed observations,” an Amazon article states.

How Fast is Fast?

Scientists claim that this star is moving at a speed of 8,000 kilometers per second. That is pretty fast! “For a star to be in a stable orbit so close and fast in the vicinity of a super massive black hole was completely unexpected and marks the limit that can be observed with traditional telescopes,” said Dr Florian Peissker, the lead author of this fascinating study. This star is very close to the rim of a “super massive” black hole; that means that the star would have to be lightning fast in order to escape the black hole’s mighty gravity, which pulls every other object in the vicinity towards it.

Well, I guess this is one of the fastest stars—maybe one of the fastest things?—that astronomers have ever discovered.

See ya next time!
