Students have to face homework, social responsibilities, academics, and management of personal life every day. It gets especially stressful for athletic students. Here’s why and how to make it less intense:
One of the important problems of being a student athlete is managing time. Lots of sports are
very time consuming and require a lot of commitment, like swimming, gymnastics, and even
chess. For example, my friends and I play on the volleyball team, and the
practices and competitions are almost 2-3 hours long and twice a week. It can be extremely tiring to study and attend classes after training. This leaves only late nights to finish homework, classes.
Another point worth mentioning is juggling school hours and sports. Students who are atheletes still have to keep up in classes at school. It can be very stressful to miss loads of classes and have to make up work in addition to from normal homework, especially in higher grades and in university, when students need sufficient sleep to ensure performance both academically and athletically. According to Harvard Summer School, “For young adults (ages 18 to 25), the range is need between seven and nine hours”.
Students can relieve stress and manage time by spending time making plans ahead of time for important events, using their time effectively so it is not wasted, and sleeping well. These solutions can make academic-athletic life easier and also prepare for the student’s future.
