The world population has been increasing at a massive rate, projected to reach 8 billion before the end of the year. Besides that, the United Nations forecasted that India’s population of 1.38 billion will be greater than China’s 1.402 billion in 2023.
Antonio Guterres, secretary general of the UN, says that the 8 billion population, which is most likely going to happen on November 15th this year, “is a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for our planet and a moment to reflect on where we still fall short of our commitments to one another”.
“This is an occasion to celebrate our diversity, recognize our common humanity, and marvel at advancements in health that have extended lifespans and dramatically reduced maternal and child mortality rates,” Mr Guterres said.
The UN predicted that the world population will be 8.5 billion in 2030, 9.7 billion in 2050, and staying roughly close to 10 billion until 2100. Besides this, most of the population rise would be from other countries, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Tanzania.
India’s population is also going to skyrocket, projecting to be over 1.6 billion by 2050, while China’s population is expected to shrink to 1.31 billion.
The populations of other countries are also going to increase, such as the United States, Canada, and Australia, mainly due to the vast amount of people moving there.
