Russia fired rockets that killed 15 Ukrainian citizens and buried another 20 in the rubble. The rockets hit the side of the 5-story apartment building, causing it to collapse. These rockets were Uragan rockets, which split into pieces to cause area damage. This may have contributed to increasing the damage, but that has not yet been confirmed. According to the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the missiles that were sent out by the Russians were intentional and not just an accident. He stated that “punishment is inevitable for every Russian murderer.”
There were survivors of the incident that lived to tell the story of what they believed to have happened. Lyudmila, a survivor of the incident, heard three strikes from the missiles. One was in her kitchen, but she could not remember where the other two hit. Then she ran “straight into the basement. We (she) sat there all night until this morning.” A person by the name of Venera is also another survivor who was not able to find her cats after the rockets hit.
Jonathan Beale is a BBC reporter who analyzed the incident and wrote about it. When he came to the scene, he was late and only managed to see an injured dog being pulled out from the debris. However, he did see shattered glass, wood, and concrete scattered and littering the floor. Most of the survivors were only trying to find and gather their belongings and were giving out food to their neighbors. This pattern of showing zero remorse for their actions has stuck with Russia throughout the Ukrainian War and it is only becoming increasingly obvious.
