President Joe Biden will award 17 people the nation’s highest civilian honor, the President Medal of Freedom, including Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and gymnast Simone Biles.

He is awarding a wide range of different people, all who have made significant contributions to America, living or deceased, from people in sports to science.

Biden himself has also received the President Medal of Freedom, from President Barack Obama, who honored his service as a U.S. Senator and vice president in January 2017.

The White House said that all of the people chosen by Biden to receive medals “have overcome significant obstacles to achieve impressive accomplishments in the arts and sciences, dedicated their lives to advocating for the most vulnerable among us, and acted with bravery to drive change in their communities, and across the world, while blazing trails for generations to come.”

One of the people who will be awarded is Steve Jobs, who was the co-founder and CEO of Apple, a major technology company, and passed away in 2011. He made many significant contributions to the technology industry and started on of the biggest businesses in the world.

Another chosen recipient of the Medal of Freedom is Gymnast Simone Biles. Biles has won 7 Olympic Medals, 4 of which are gold. She has also won 25 World Championship medals and speaks out about many important issues that are personal to her, such as athlete’s mental health and children in foster care.

One person who will be awarded a medal stands out from the rest. Sandra Lindsay was the first person to ever receive the COVID-19 vaccine. She is a New York City nurse and got the vaccine on live television back in December 2020.

All the recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, including the three mentioned and fourteen others, have made the world a better place in one way or another.
