Can you believe the once legendary Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi said, “We have lost?” Obi-Wan, who used to be full of energy, is now a shadow of his failure.
Disney’s new prequel series, Obi-Wan Kenobi (or Kenobi for short), opens the audience up to a new story. The series brings us a closer look at the former Jedi Master’s exile on the desert planet of Tatooine.
Kenobi takes place ten years after the original Star Wars movie, the Revenge of The Sith. After Obi-Wan defeated his apprentice, Anakin Skywalker (later Darth Vader), the Jedi put himself into exile on Anakin’s home planet because Jedi Master Yoda assigned him to protect Anakin’s son, Luke Skywalker. You’ll later find out (in movies four and onwards) that Luke Skywalker would defeat his father in a lightsaber battle to bring the galaxy to peace again.
In the Revenge of The Sith, Empire Palpatine commands Order 66, an order for the Clone Troopers to kill the Jedi. As a result, most of the Jedi died. Only a handful of Jedi survives, including Yoda and Kenobi.
With few Jedi left, the Empire sends out its Inquisitors (specially trained people with a sense of the Force) to terminate the rest of the Jedi. Inquisitor Third Sister Reva is determined to catch the old Jedi Master. But unfortunately, Obi-Wan has disconnected from the Force in fear of getting discovered by the Empire.
In the second half of the first episode, the world turns upside-down when bounty hunters (working under Reva) kidnap ten-year-old Princess Leia Organa. Reva plotted this scene to lure Obi-Wan to the planet of Daiyu. Adventurous Leia was a little too adventurous as she wandered out of the Alderaan royal castle and got kidnapped. Following the kidnap, Obi-Wan got contacted by Bail Organa, Leia’s adoptive father. At first, Kenobi immediately refused. But what surprised us is what happened after.
Approaching his cave, Obi-Wan checked the security system. When he found negative reports, he cautiously approached his home. A figure was standing facing away from Kenobi. The mysterious figure turned, facing Kenobi now. As Obi-Wan was ready to draw his blaster, he realized that it was Bail Organa.
“You couldn’t save Anakin,” Organa says, “but you can save her.”
Kenobi, one of the few people in the galaxy who knew the importance of Leia, reluctantly left his exile and went far, far away again. What happens at Daiyu is what we’re not expecting… At Daiyu, the audience gets a fresh look at the reign of the newly established Empire, Obi-Wan’s power fading away, and what we’ve all been waiting for – Leia, in action.
In the galaxy far, far away, Obi-Wan Kenobi continues his treacherous journey through the galaxy. Gives us a closer look at the gap of time that George Lucas never covered. Kenobi and Leia make the best duo, and you never know what’s around the corner until you discover it yourself!
