On June 1, 2023, a person found a rare wolverine in Northern California. This animal runs very happily in the Golden state. The California Department of the Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) confirmed that the various photos portray the same individual.

“Wolverines can travel far,” said a scientist from the CDFW. But only two wolverines have been confirmed in California during the last 100 years.

The previous wolverine to visit California was nicknamed Buddy. He was here for 2008 through 2018 without disappearing. Before that, the last confirmed wolverine sighting was in 1922.

The wolverine is the largest member in the weasel family. It is similar to otters and badgers (but way bigger!). The wolverine is an endangered species, as there are fewer than 300 wolverines in left the US. In 1922, there were almost no more Wolverines, but we found two of them in 2008! They can also be found in northern Canada, Siberia, Scandinavia, and Russia.
