Recently, a lioness was supposedly spotted in a forest in Germany. However, recent observations say that it might not have been a lioness, but just a wild boar on the run. Although it might be difficult to imagine confusing a boar for a massive lioness, scientists studying the case say it might be possible.
At midnight last Thursday, a lioness was “seen” running through a forest in a German suburb chasing after a wild boar. A witness recorded a video displaying a huge cat chasing what appeared to be a wild boar. The video was the only evidence, but it was enough to prove that a giant animal was prowling around in the forests.
A message was sent to the local community warning everyone to be careful with their children and pets. Some public places, like swimming areas and libraries, also closed. Scientists and veterinarians searched a 30 miles radius, finding nothing but a family of about 30 wild boars lurking in the forests. “More than 30 patrol cars, as well as helicopters, veterinarians and hunters were on the scene. Riot police stood by to help protect the local population. Warnings were broadcast to the public via loudspeakers, warning apps and social media,” says NPR news. (NPR)
Michael Grubert, the Mayor of Kleinmachnow, reported on Friday that scientists realized that the tail and the eyes could have just been a shadow, and that the creature on video lacked the elongated curvy neck of any of the big cat species. He also said that the light color of the animals hide might’ve just been the lack of light. Wild boars can also have the same light-colored fur. Scientists started to question whether the animal they saw was legitimately a lion, or if it was a very large wild boar chasing another one of its own.
Wild boars are still capable of harming humans with their very sharp teeth. They can also annoy residents. “A warning to stay indoors was lifted Friday and search efforts would be considerably scaled back,” Grubert said. Though, he added that police would be prepared to react if the situation changed.
