During the Week of July 28, 2023, North Korea invited China and Russia to North Korea, with both countries talking to North Korea, it could be a huge risk to the U.S.

Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu and Chinese Politburo member Li Hongzhong arrive at North Korea’s border, and their leader Kim Jong Un invites them to see a military parade to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Agreement. In this parade, Kim Jong Un shows the delegates new military technology.

North Korea has been allied with Russia and China separately. During the Korean War, both Beijing and Moscow supported North Korea and gave them ammunition, supplies and soldiers. Since the downfall of the Soviet Union Russia had been strong allies with North Korea ever since.

What was in the parade and what makes the new technology so special? State media said that“North Korea showcased new drones and some of its short-range missiles that are designed to carry nuclear warheads”(Washington Post) This new tech can help distribute nuclear weapons faster, but that’s not the only special thing about it. The drone can double as an accurate attack drone, which can be used to accurately take down targets.

The fact that North Korea would show Russia and China the new technology shows how good of allies they are. The bond they have and the military power that they all have combined reinforces the message of how dangerous it would be for the 3 countries to team up.

Why are Russia and China partnering up with North Korea so dangerous? With both of them teaming up with North Korea, they can support North Korea and help them get away from punishment. Wi Sung-lac, a former South Korean ambassador said that, “In effect, China and Russia are sort of enablers for North Korea to go ahead with the nuclear and missile program.”(Washington Post). Due to all the support from Russia and China, it could push North Korea into using missiles, which would cause a lot of deaths just for their own gain.

Furthermore, the U.N security council resolutions banned many of North Korea’s missiles, but Kim Jong Un still keeps them, and despite the efforts of the council trying to punish North Korea, China and Russia have repeatedly hindered them.

Another reason could be that North Korea, China, and Russia don’t have the best of relationships with the U.S. Derek Cai, a BBC news writer, wrote, “ the backdrop of rising geopolitical tensions between the US and Russia over the Ukraine war. Ties between Beijing and Washington are also frayed because of Taiwan.” (BBC).

The U.S. has many bad relationships with the three countries. North Korea naturally hates the U.S. for some unknown reasons. Russia and the U.S. have been at odds due to the U.S. supplying Russia’s opponent Ukraine in the war. Plus the U.S. has also hurt its relations with China about a dispute with Taiwan. All these reasons alone could culminate in the 3 of them working together against the U.S.

North Korea, Russia, and China teaming up would be detrimental to the U.S. due to how strong of allies they are, due to the support they give especially to North Korea, and due to the shared dislike of the U.S. they have. If all 3 countries teamed up it would be quite a scare to the U.S.
