For twelve years, WestJet Airlines of Calgary, Canada, has managed to find a way to spread some happiness during the holiday season with their annual Christmas Miracle. And this year was no different!
This year, WestJet’s Christmas Miracle was appropriately named “Parents’ Wishlist Miracle.” Passengers boarding a flight from Toronto to Calgary were asked to meet WestJet’s famous Blue Santa. But instead of asking the kids what they wanted, he asked them what they thought their parents would want.
Kids of all ages displayed their creativity by asking for a range of items. Some were simple, like an avocado, but others included a smartwatch, tickets to a football game, and a snorkelling vacation to Cozumel.
The passengers then boarded their flight to Calgary while, unbeknownst to them, over 150 WestJet employees and volunteers were shopping and wrapping the presents as fast as they could.
When the passengers arrived at the baggage claim area in Calgary, they were astonished to see the gifts all wrapped up and ready for them! “I-I’m very touched, thank you,” said a moved-to-tears parent gifted with a trip to Italy.
Since 2013, WestJet has had a Christmas Miracle each year, the goal of which is to bring some happiness to those who need it. Previous Christmas Miracles included care packages to those in need and special trips to bring families together for the holiday.
The 130 gift recipients all went home happy, which goes to show how even a small gesture can brighten someone’s day.
