Dear Editor,
There are several mistakes throughout this article. First of all, there is no such thing as an “Ambitious Assault Ship”. In fact, everytime the word “ambitious” is written in this article, it should be replaced with Amphibious. Second, the USS Bonhomme Richard is not an aircraft carrier, and aircraft carrier should not have quotes around it. It is an LHD, or Landing Helicopter Dock, and it is primarily used to land helicopters. Fixed wing aircraft can land there, but they must be VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing). Their main role in combat is to support amphibious landings by either a) Deploying Marines via landing craft or b) Deploying Helicopters. They can also carry tanks, howitzers, AAVs (Amphibious Assault Vehicles), trucks, and other vehicles. Thirdly, the MEU ( Marine Expeditionary Unit) is not just landing equipment. The MEU is a small rapid response force, and in combat is part of an ESG (Expeditionary Strike Group). An MEU consists of mostly Marines, but has Navy sailors as well. They are equipped with a plethora of different weapons, including but not limited to, Javelin anti-tank missiles, drones, bulldozers, howitzers, helicopters, etc. There are many mistakes in this article. I hope that I have pointed them out clearly and that you can change them.
Sincerely,
Evan Mei
