Tobi Amusan of Nigeria broke a world record running a 100-meter race. On Sunday, she ran in the track championships in Eugene, Oregon. Anyway, there is not a mystery of the broken record since most of the time, records are broken at events.

The fourth-, fifth-, sixth- and eighth-placed runners had ran their best times on speed for the current time. The other three, second-, third-, and seventh ran their best times of the year. The surprising part is, even Amusan, the record-holding runner right now, was shocked to see her time. Her time was 12.12 seconds!

That 12.12 seconds may sound not so fast but it was enough to beat the old record, 12.20, held by American Kendra Harrison since 2016, by over half of a second! That was a close win!

Legend Michael Johnson was also 200- and 400-meter champion. On Twitter, Michael Johnson wrote, “I don’t believe 100h times are correct, World record broken by .08! 12 PBs set. 5 National records set.”

Amusan’s time did throw her into shock and happiness. Her time was 0.28 of a second quicker than her previous best time of 12.40! this time, her quickness was even faster for herself!

Amusan’s time breaking record helped her and won Nigeria their first gold medal!
