The wind blew, and the moon was covered by the gray clouds that collected in the dark sky. Snow covered the ground of Townsville. Everyone was huddled around the fireplace telling stories.
Julie was on the sofa, listening to her grandfather telling stories. He was telling a legend about a wish that could be fulfilled on the coldest night of the year. Coincidentally, that night was the coldest night, and Julie found herself questioning the reality of the legend. Was the story actually true? “Grandpa, is it a real story? If I whisper my wish into the wind, will it come true?”
“It’s just a legend.” Grandpa replied.
Julie thought to herself, “If it’s actually true, everything would change! I am going to try, and it won’t hurt to try.” She walked out the door, closing it after her. The wind struck against her face. She could feel her face turn red. Julie shut her eyes closed, and squeezed them together. She whispered into the wind that was swirling all around her, “I wish that I can have unlimited chocolate for the rest of my life.” Suddenly, she felt a flash of heat behind her.
She turned around, expecting nothing unusual. However, her eyes widened in surprise as she realized that her house had turned into chocolates! The walls were chocolate bars. Even the door and doorknob was made out of milk chocolate!
Suddenly, she heard screaming from inside. Fearing for the worst, she ran back inside and saw that the wall behind the fireplace started to melt! Her father quickly extinguished the fire. Later that night, the family slept in the chocolate house, aware of the hole that used to be the fireplace. The wind outside seemed to be mocking Julie, “Don’t mess with me. Be careful what you wish for.”
Ever since, Julie was always careful about wishing for things. She thought before she acted.
