In the chilly winds of spring, my family and some other family friends went on a road trip to Virginia. We decided on the trip a few months before, so my friend and I were very excited and also very impatient. As a matter of fact, we were so impatient that we made a checklist for all of the stuff that we had to bring for the trip a whole 3 weeks before the actual trip.

In the checklist, we added toothbrushes and essentials for personal hygiene. Along with that, we also wrote things for when we were in the small town, walking around. It was very sunny at the time, so we decided to bring hats, sunscreen, and sunglasses. These were crucial for the Virginia weather because, although it wasn’t a state like Florida or Arizona, the sun was still scorching hot.

On the day of the trip, we left our house at around 1:00 p.m. and stopped for lunch at 4:00. My friend and I were sitting in the back of the van that we had rented for the trip and munching on the chicken sandwiches that we had bought at Chick-Fil-A. Afterward, we continued driving for another 4 hours until we arrived at the house that my mom rented out for the week. One by one, we all stepped into the house and started exploring the place like it was a new territory in the 1800s.

Unfortunately, I was placed into a room with 2 sets of bunk beds: 4 twin-sized beds. This meant that there were going to be 3 more 6-year-olds that I’d have to deal with for the entire week. Fortunately, I didn’t have to sleep with them because they were all too scared to sleep without their moms by their sides. Therefore, I had 4 entire beds all to myself. You would think, “Who in their right mind needs 4 twin-sized beds?” Exactly, no one.

I unpacked all of the stuff and decided to go upstairs and meet up with the rest of my friends and family. They were unpacking the food that they had brought.

After helping the adults unpack everything and putting everything in place, my friend and I decided to play some table pool. Neither of us knew how to play table pool, so we decided that this was the perfect time to learn. All we knew was that you had to hit your balls in before the other person hits their balls in. After playing for 3 whole hours, we finally thought that it was the perfect time to go outside and see what the dock looked like. The house that my mom rented out had kayaks for us to go kayaking with, in the clear lake next to the house.

That night we went out to eat at a local diner that we had found last minute online. At the diner, I ordered a beef hamburger along with some french fries and a Sprite. My friend, similarly, ordered a chicken sandwich with mashed potatoes and a Sprite. The food there was absolutely spectacular: so spectacular that I decided to order another hamburger with more fries. Long story short, I had the best dinner I’ve had in a while. After everybody had finished dinner, we paid for the food and headed home. On the way home, my friend and I were discussing what we should do for the next day. Eventually, everybody agreed on going to a mirror maze in the town.

When we got home, it was around 9:30 p.m. so my friend and I decided to play some more table pool. We played until 11 p.m. and finally decided to call it a night, wash up, and go to sleep.
