Bryce Harper broke his thumb on June 26 after San Diego Padres pitcher Blake Snell hit him with a pitch up and in. It has been confirmed that Harper will be out for the rest of the season.
Bryce Harper was drafted first overall in the 2010 MLB draft at the age of 19. He had graduated high school early so he could attend the College of Southern Nevada. He made his MLB debut with the Washington Nationals in 2012. He also made his first all-star appearance that year, becoming the youngest-ever position player to become an all-star. He went on to win the National League Rookie of the Year award. In 2015, Harper led the league in home runs and won the National League Most Valuable Player award. He became the youngest player to receive that award, at the age of 22. He became a free agent during the 2018-2019 offseason and signed the biggest contract in North American sports at 13 years for $330 million with the Philadelphia Phillies. He won his second National League Most Valuable Player in 2021.
Losing Harper is a major blow to the Phillies, as he is most of the team’s offense. It will be interesting to see who steps up to take his place.
