The biodiversity crisis drew thousands of scientific studies and other references because billions of people worldwide rely on the food, energy, medicine, and income that nature brings.
“Half of humanity benefits from and makes use of wild species, and often without even knowing that they’re doing so,” said Marla R. Emery, one of the co-chairs of the assessment, which was conducted by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.
One-third of the wild species that humans use in some way, and which also appear on the “red list”, are those listed as threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. While nature provides resources that humans need, the greediness of us is putting people in bad shape.
Natural gas, coal, special plants, and animals are fading away as humans keep damaging the
environment. However, humans cannot stop using these resources as they are basic needs for everyday life nowadays. As individuals, we can try to limit the usage of these limited resources and not waste any of these precious gifts from nature.
