On Thursday, NASA, (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) declared it would launch its moon rocket at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida in late August. The first launch attempt will come sometime between Aug. 23 and Sep. 6.

NASA has finished most of the testing on the rocket this week. Known as “a wet dress rehearsal”, it completely fueled more than 700,000 gallons of liquid oxygen and hydrogen to the two stages of the rocket. However, a hydrogen leak cut the countdown stimulator when 29 seconds left. According to the report, the agency will fix the leak before the launch action.

Still, NASA was pleased with the results. “It was a great day,” Charlie Blackwell-Thompson, the Artemis launch director, told reporters after the test. “It was a very successful day, and we accomplished a majority of the objectives that we had not completed in the prior tests.

There will not be another test for fueling and countdown. On Thursday, NASA said the data they gathered will support the first-ever launch of the massive SLS rocket. The rocket will attempt to bring the astronauts to the moon for a second time.

“NASA has reviewed the data from the rehearsal and determined the testing campaign is complete,” the agency said in a statement.

The launch action, Artemis I, will send the Orion capsule to orbit around the moon. There will be no astronauts aboard. Then possibly in 2024, NASA will send four astronauts to the capsule, and they will fly around the moon without landing. For landing, the target date is in 2025, though the actual date will come after the successful completion of the preceding actions as well as the usability of the vehicles.
