Jay Johnston, a 54-year-old comedian, has been recently arrested on charges of felony obstruction of police officers during the January 6th riot.
Johnston’s name emerged in connection to the riot when some civilians recognized his face on a Twitter post by the FBI.
Cassandra Church, who worked with him on the show Harmontown, said: “I’m no detective, but I do know Jay. He said he was there. And that’s him in the picture. So…”
A surveillance video depicts Johnston pushing against officers and assisting other rioters by pouring water in their eyes after officers sprayed them with tear gas.
Mr. Johnston has had a long history of acting in primarily comedic roles. He regularly appeared on Mr. Show, an American sketch comedy series hosted by Bob Odenkirk and David Cross.
More than 1,040 people have been charged concerning the Capitol attack, and about a thousand more may face charges. Incarceration sentences range from a few days to almost twenty years.
