The Supreme Court has ruled that gun rights have been expanded. According to BBC News, “Justice Clarence Thomas, writing on behalf of the six conservative judges who make up the court’s majority, ruled that Americans have a right to carry “commonly used” firearms in public for personal defense.” The court says that 25% of the population of America would be affected by gun restrictions and so the Supreme Court has ruled that people can carry around firearms regularly for proper cause and defense.

The problem with this is that people don’t know how to control and handle firearms as seen in the Uvalde shooting and the Buffalo shotting as well. And when the Supreme Court says that people will use guns for proper cause and defense, and if one doesn’t there will be punishment, the risk of mass shootings remains. The Supreme Court can’t guarantee that people won’t start shooting and innocent people will die in those kinds of scenarios. In addition, the Supreme Court says that people should have guns for defense. But people tend to use them for offense a lot more than defense.

All in all, the government wants people to feel safer by making guns the solution. Instead, it has possibly made guns the biggest problem in the United States.
