Mire Lee began planning a piece of artwork while sitting at a café in Seoul, South Korea. Her artwork is made using everyday objects. One of her most famous pieces resembles a digestive system.
Mire has made lots of different art pieces – for example, she made a bathtub with swirling cement, used ceramics to resemble an animal’s bone, and is making a textile room. She got an M.F.A in art in the Seoul Museum of Art. Not only does Mire make artwork, but she says that she makes wild stuff all the time. For example, she created a pool of silicone raining down into a screen that is now displayed in the Seoul Museum of Art. She has also been one of the pioneers of kinetic art. Lee’s work seems to elevate and evolve with time. For example, she recently designed a video called sleeping moon that will be displayed at the New Museum.
Sometimes, her artwork can be confusing – especially pieces like the ones that put you inside the gut of a dragon. These pieces are meant to evoke emotion.
