Someone in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, won the Mega Millions jackpot of 1.337 billion dollars. The ticket was purchased at a speedway convenience store in Des Plaines. The billion-dollar numbers were 13-36-45-57-67, and the Mega Ball was14.

“We are thrilled to have witnessed one of the biggest jackpot wins in Mega Millions history,” said the lead director for the Mega Millions consortium. The 1.3-billion-dollar prize is for the people who pay annually, but most use cash instead, which has a prize of an estimated 780.5 million. The odds of winning the lottery is 1 in 302.5 million, so the person who won is very lucky. The store that sold the ticket is also very lucky. They get 500 thousand dollars just for selling the winning ticket.

The Mega Millions lottery is played in 45 states, Washington D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. State lotteries run the game. Illinois is one of the states that let lottery winners of more than 250 thousand not reveal their names.

“We won’t know whether it’s an individual or it’s a lottery pool until the winner comes forward to claim their prize,” said Mega Millions spokeswoman Danielle Frizzi-Babb.

Although the winner doesn’t immediately have to sign their ticket, they do have to sign it, or else it’s not technically theirs. Someone else might find it and sign it. And if they do, it is theirs.

Emily Erwin, a managing director at Wells Fargo, suggests taking a polaroid photo of you and the ticket. And if you win, she suggests getting a financial manager that specializes in ultra-wealth.

“You may be interested in owning your favorite basketball team, but maybe that isn’t a good idea if it uses up all your money,” Pratik Patel, the head of family wealth strategies at the BMO family office in Chicago.
