The welcome England’s top football club receives when they travel to the Far East is special. Numerous people were waiting outside the Bangkok Airport two hours before Liverpool’s flight was scheduled to land. Some people waited for more than six hours for Liverpool’s arrival.
Founded in 1892, Liverpool is an English professional football team based in Liverpool, England. The club competes in the Premier League, the top tier of English football.
Liverpool arrived in Thailand on Sunday, one day after Manchester United, another Premier League competitor. Prior to United’s departure for additional preseason matches in Australia, the two teams faced off on Tuesday.
Well over a thousand supporters were there when Klopp and his players prepared to leave the airport and drive into the city. Considering that it took only about three steps to walk from the VIP room exit to the team bus, those who were 50 yards away were unlikely to have even caught a glimpse of their superstars.
As a press conference table was set up with three seats—one for Klopp, one for vice-captain James Milner, and one for captain Jordan Henderson—the situation quickly became chaotic. The press ignored the barrier they were supposed to stay behind and officials made vain attempts to clear space for questions to be asked in an orderly manner.
“I have never been to a press conference like this,” Klopp said as he was presented with a ball. “Thank you for the really warm welcome. It is only my second time in Thailand, the first was an hour on the way to Sydney. Hopefully I get time to spend in the city this time.”
