When the NBA officials added the three point line in 1979, no one expected the line’s massive

impact later in the league. “No team had ever taken 40% of its shots as 3-pointers until 2017.

Now half the league is doing it,” stated Ben Cohen, a writer for the Wall Street Journal.

As the number of three-pointers made continues to rise from 17% twenty years ago to almost

40% now, the sport of basketball adapts accordingly.

Three-pointers might seem easier during games, but players need to spend way more time

practicing the long-range shots From the legendary Michael Jordan’s fancy dunk

generation to the shooter dynasty led by Stephen Curry, many NBA fans realize the league’s

evolution.

Coach Griffin told his team, “If we don’t shoot three-pointers, it will be hard for us to win the

games… Every other team will shoot them, and it will be an easy way for us to take the lead

faster and sometimes catch up.”

The five-time NBA champion, George Mikan, believed that “three-pointers will give smaller

guards/players more chances to score, and the spread-out defense will make the game more

enjoyable to the fans.”

However, some spectators disagree: “Well, I think if you shoot three-pointers, you can get more points easier and faster. But for the audience, it won’t be as interesting to watch as the players who dunk before,” stated the basketball team’s parents.

Three-pointers might seem easier during games as it’s not devastating for physical strength.

However, players need to spend way more time practicing this skill in order to perform it well on those long-range shots. Still, nothing comes easy.
