Famous painter Frida Kahlo has inspired many people by being in movies, books, T-shirts, and bags. It was recently announced that there will be a new musical for Frida’s childhood.

The Musical is planned to premiere in 2024 right after the tryouts starting next year. The music will be produced by Jaime Lozano and lyrics by playwright Neena Beber, and it will be produced by Valentina Berger. The show will contain different stages, the first stage was when she moved from Mexico to Paris the second from Paris to New York and then the final stage “blue house” where she died and was born.

Even though people already know lots about Frida, creators are trying their best to tell the untold truth about her. Creators have also been informed by Frida’s family about specific information for the musical.

One of the realities that will be portrayed in the musical is the story from when she got hit by a streetcar at the age of 18. This damaged her spinal cord and pelvis which caused her constant pain throughout the rest of her life. After this incident she started to paint in bed, but sadly she died at the age of 47.

Even though Frida passed away people in her family still remember her and live to tell what happened when she was still alive. “In all the stories I heard when I was a little child, our family remembered Aunt Frida as a very joyful woman,” said Mara Romeo Kahlo. “She was passionate about music, arts, and Mexican culture. ‘Frida, The Musical’ honors everything she was: a real woman who fought for her dreams, loved like anybody else and always lived ahead of her time.”

Frida has drawn many portraits of herself which is much more impactful than just a few simple self-portraits. So Beber, the playwriter said “Why are people still doing Shakespeare?” she said. “Why are people still finding ways to make ‘Hamlet’ exciting? How many selfportraits did Frida do? Quite a few. I think there’s room for multiple Fridas. We want to bring our own passions, love, interests, pain to her story. Let there be many Fridas.”

Frida’s life was a roller coaster, starting from the car accident then to painting and finally to death. Therefore, creators think this is a great play to be performing.
