On Saturday August 1st, 2022, former president Donald Trump faced criminal charges due to his behavior after his election loss to Biden. It was said that he participated in a conspiracy to overturn the election results, which led to an attack on the U.S Capitol from his supporters on Jan. 6, 2021.

Trump is now facing four serious charges that were based on conspiracy, or knowingly breaking the law for defrauding the US, and getting in the way of official proceedings. According to an article published by Kids News, “Mr. Trump…was innocent until proven guilty.”

What did Trump do exactly? Promptly, Mr. Trump accused officials of tampering with the election. He then claimed he was the rightful winner. He is also accused of lying about the election being rigged, and for attempting to force the Vice president at the time, Mike Pence, to use his role to make it look like he won. “The indictment said Mr. Trump’s actions created a mood of mistrust and anger while leading many Americans to question whether they could trust the electoral processes in place,” said the rioters (Minear and Vallejo).

Trump is the first president in US history to be hit with criminal charges. With that being said, it led to a huge riot in front of the Capitol Building, which was about whether he was able to run in politics or not. Two months after Trump’s defeat, another mob of angry rioters irrupted inside the Capitol Building, where the process of making Biden the new president was occurring. It was said that they were trying to stop it from happening.

Mr. Trump was right there watching it happen. They all stormed in after he gave his speech. “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard,” he said (Minear and Vallejo).

After investigating and investigating over and over again, it was decided that the indictment marks a set of criminal charges filed against Trump. It was clear that he lost the election and will not become President again in the year 2024.
