The recording breaking python was captured by the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, on June 22, 2022.

This female python was about 18 feet long and 215 pounds, beating the previous record of 185 pounds. In the lab, the conservancy found that she was carrying 122 eggs, which broke another record for this snake. The Burmese Python species is known for its large and long body and its ability to reproduce quickly. The biologists also found remnants of an adult white-tailed deer in the python’s stomach, which is a bad sign for other predators because the deer are an important part of the food chain.

Conservatories must get rid of the reproduction of these snakes in the everglades because it infects the native animals that were already there. Ian Bartoszek, the project manager, said “[t]he removal of female pythons plays a role in the breeding cycle of these apex that are wreaking on the Everglades and taking food sources from other native species.”

These snakes came to the everglades because a while back people started to adopt them as exotic pets. But later on, they started to not like a giant snake as their pets, so they let them go in the wild. Another reason is that there was a Hurricane that struck on a breeding facility which led to many reptiles escaping. There is also an annual contest in Florida that makes people hunt down snakes, and the person with the most snakes captured by the end of 2 weeks wins some prize money.

Reptiles reproduce really quickly, so the Florida Officials have given up on capturing all these animals, but they are trying to research how to stop them from reproduction. Like using other male’s snakes to find the female snakes.
