Naegleria Fowleri also known as the Brain-Eating Amoeba is strange but deadly. As the term Brain-Eating Amoeba sound scary, it is scary. These tiny parasites live in warm freshwater. These deadly parasites lurk in swimming pools and other hot freshwater places.

This Brain-Eating Amoeba often eats other germs and bacteria. What would happen if you got infected by this deadly microorganism? The rate you will start showing symptoms are between 5-10 days. How do you even get this parasite anyway? First, the only way you can get contact with the Brain-Eating Amoeba is when you jump into a warm freshwater place. Most times water will go up your nose if you don’t hold it.

When an amoeba is in the water, the amoeba will probably go with it. After that, the amoeba will want to get out as it floats deeper and deeper without getting noticed. After a long journey, something gets the amoeba’s attention. Nerve cells.

As the amoeba passes through, your body throws immune cells to defend you. The antibodies won’t do anything to it. But some unlucky amoebas can get ripped apart instead of defeating your immune cells. As it reaches your brain, it opens holes and starts eating your brain cells.

What do you do next time? Next time when you go out for a swim, just have fun! Cases of getting infected are rare. Not only because the water needs to go deep into your nose, but it also has to get through your first line of defenses. And look at what pool you are using! Properly treated pools cannot have amoebas. Also, amoebas cannot live in saltwater.
