At the recommendation of one of her closest friends, Amanda went to buy a pregnancy test. She had already been puking for a while, and having food cravings for random things, such as : noodles, McDonalds, and candy. When she turned around to check the test, it showed just one line. Amanda smiles in relief. She shakes around the test and went outside to show some of her trusted family that everything’s good and alright. She announces to everyone that she isn’t pregnant with pride. Her student loans and apartment fees were too much to handle, with a minimum-wage job to pay for all that and her new chemotherapy? A child was clearly out of the question.

A friend of hers, Celina, was looking at the test when she gave a horrified gasp. Celina, a sharp eyed first officer of the well acknowledged Singapore Airlines, had amazing eyesight. There was no doubt now, because if she had seen those life condemning two stripes, that would sentence both her and her boyfriend Bill. Amanda looked out in horror.

She already had stage three breast cancer, which meant that couldn’t do her life-saving chemotherapy during the first trimester. Amanda also lived at the tip of Texas, with the nearest abortion clinic a few hundred miles away, making what probably could have saved her, the reason why she was going to suffer in agony for long enough, it might just turn into stage four or five breast cancer.

She had already calculated the risks, and she was acutely aware that for all those hundred and thousand possibilities, she was going to die in a year for most of them.

Amanda may not be a real person, but what is shown in her story, might just be someone else’s reality. After Roe. v. Wade had been overturned there have been many women needing abortions for life-or-death situations and not being granted one. Like Amanda, someone out there might have breast cancer and due to having a child, they cannot have any type of chemotherapy for a full 91 days. And for some people if you had stage three or four breast cancer, you might just progress into stage four or even five, harming your body even more. Many women also do not have enough funds to travel outside of their state to get an abortion, with some still getting rid of student loans and paying off rent, it just is not possible for these women.
