Last Friday, Prince George was photographed on a privately owned estate near the beach celebrating his 9th birthday. Dressed in a blue simple polo, he was shown beaming from ear-to-ear.

Taking pictures during this ceremonial event is a royal tradition, where birthdays are marked by the public release of photographs. This time showing the prince was grinning happily.

For the most part, young royals are shut out of the public’s eye, but due to the Platinum Jubilee, an anniversary celebrating Queen Elizabeth this year, the whole royal family attended many publicized events. Showcasing the young prince surrounded by family on a balcony observing the Jubilee.

On July 22, 2013, Prince George was born to much media attention. Reporters and others stood waiting outside of the St. Mary’s hospital hoping to catch a glimpse of the royal family and their new heir. He was later Christened and became a brother to a younger sister and brother.

Prince George’s birthday was celebrated all over British media outlets; however, the recent attention of the royal family also re-sparked the controversial news of Princess Diana.

In 1995, the BBC journalist Martin Bashir created malicious stories of the former nanny of William and Prince Harry in order to obtain an exclusive interview with Princess Diana. After many years an independent investigation was done on the claims; resulting in the recent discovery that Bashir had faked documents. To resolve this issue, the BBC agreed to pay the disgraced nanny.

Alexandra Pettifer, the former nanny, appeared at London’s High Court on Thursday for a public apology from BBC. The media conglomerate apologized for spreading claims detailing her fake and made-up affair with Prince Charles while she acted as his personal assistant. Creating “serious personal consequences”.

This news is greatly welcomed in the royal family. Charles Spencer, Princess Diana’s brother, tweeted his delight that another victim of the horrible interview was vindicated. In a tweet he wrote, ““While I’m delighted to see that another innocent victim of this appalling scandal is being vindicated, it’s amazing to me that no criminal charges have been levelled against those responsible, yet.”
