We all imagine some sort of machine that mimics what humans do but at least a thousand times better. It can look like a human and is almost indestructible. It follows commands and is basically a human’s personal unpaid worker. Well, this idea comes from all the TV shows, movies, and books we watch and read. We are also very far from actually making a robot like the books, TV shows, and movies. However, even though we are very far from creating a robot from our favorite fantasy world, I just think we should not create robots that do our bidding and especially not robots that can gain intelligence as they learn from humanity and society and just stop working on a better robot design. Robots are very easy to hijack. They aren’t people that have their own beliefs. Robots are programs and anyone who can manipulate the scripts and coding inside a robot can control the robot to do their bidding.
The thing about robots is that they don’t stop until “told,” run out of battery, or are destroyed. They complete their mission no matter what. I think this is demonstrated in the Terminator series where no matter how battered and bruised the Terminator is, he just keeps on going to chase his prey and target. And that makes you reconsider the joke about robots ruling the world because it might become a reality. Nobody wants a cyborg-killing assassin robot hunting them down every second. And as mentioned before, robots in fantasies mainly are almost indestructible. If we have a robot that is out of control but hard to destroy, what can we do? And especially if there are dozens or hundreds of the same robots hacked. What could we do?
In addition, I believe that robots will make humans lazy. I mean think about it: a robot who can cook and serve us. Why would we want to do it if a robot can do it for us? Over time robots will get easier to make and cheaper to buy. This will allow more people to get them which will make a negative impact on more people.
Honestly, I think robots are cool and all, but I think we are getting a little too far which is going to have a bad impact on us humans.
