Nick Kyrgios, the professional tennis player, created major amounts of drama on and off the
court last Saturday night when facing Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece. Kyrgios is known for his
temperamental attitude when it comes to competing in the courts of Wimbledon.
On the No. 1 court of Wimbledon, Nick Kyrgios won his match against the number 4 seed,
Stefanos Tsitsipas, with a score of 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7).
In this last match, Stefanos Tsitspias had enough of Kyrigios’ attitude, and settled into
one big drama. Kyrgios kept complaining about the calls and going to the umpire’s chair. This
tilted Tsitspias causing him to also wreak chaos in the stadium, by proposing to try to hit Kyrgios and the fans in the stadium.
After the match, Tsitspias said that Kyrgios bullies his opponents. He was probably a bully at
school himself. I don’t like bullies. I don’t like people that put other people down. He has some
good traits in his character, as well. But when he — he also has a very evil side to him, which if
it’s exposed, it can really do a lot of harm and bad to the people around him.”
Tsitspias apologized for smacking the ball to the fans but didn’t regret as much trying to hit his
opponent. He said, “I was aiming for the body of my opponent, but I missed by a lot, by a lot,” he said. Then, he added, “When I feel like other people disrespect me and don’t respect what I’m doing from the other side of the court, it’s absolute normal from my side to act and do something about it.”
Shortly after hearing this, Kyrgios violated the long-sustained dress code Wimbledon had of
wearing all white to make a statement. Instead, he wore a black cap and a T-shirt featuring
Dennis Rodman, the one-time NBA rebel.
Kyrgios openly disagreed with what Tsitspias had to say, saying “I’ve got many friends, just to
let you know. I’m actually one of the most liked. I’m set. He’s not liked.” and “He was the one
that hit a spectator. He was the one that smacked it out of the stadium.”
With many more matches to go, who will know what crazy surprise Kygrios has for us next?
