Rafael Nadal, a professional tennis athlete who keeps defying the odds, won his first grass-court match in three years.

His last grass-court match was in the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 2019, against his rival, Roger Federer, in which he lost to in a 5-set thriller. Ever since, the 36-year-old has been fighting against injuries, Covid, and old age. In the beginning of the year, Nadal defied the odds once again by becoming the first man to win 21 grand slam titles and winning his 14th French Open. He defeated tough opponents on his way to victory.

This year, since the Russians cannot play due to the War in Ukraine, Nadal has a great chance of winning the tournament. With Mateo Berrentini out with Covid, a popular contender for the title, Nadal’s chances of getting a 23rd grand slam title increase. Although grass isn’t his specialty, his mental toughness and his aggressive topsin playstyle can help grind out each point and wear out his opponent.

Unfortunately, Nadal has been having some foot pain, and it has bothered him enough to miss half of the hard-court season. If Nadal can play through his discomfort, it may give him the chance for an insane year of tennis and may get him a calendar slam, which is when someone wins all four grand slams. Nadal has defied all odds and shows that he isn’t done yet.
