The Catalyst

Fresh midnight,

In the corner of the room,

the tabletop lamp glows

This ladybug attracted to the brightness

Whether ignorant or negligent

Sizzle!

– Burns to a crisp

The ladybug plunges down,

Frozen in time-

falling even quicker

Cicadas cry,

The grasshoppers mourn

Even the moon begins to sink

Yet as fresh sunlight arises,

the Honeydew drops,

And the world carries on

Warming the still water

Splash! The water-

Silent again

Forever changing,

Yet frozen still
