Chapter 6: Cletus’s Secrets

Cage and the other workers went out after finishing their meal and, l, for once, his stomach felt satisfied. Right as Cage stepped foot outside, a sinister laugh came behind him: “Oh how they think that I’ll treat ‘em well, it’s not like I’ll send them to the worst farmer in the country.” More laughs.

His stomach turned into a knot. The satisfaction was vanquished, and Cage felt his blood turn to ice. The worst farmer in the country? He had heard of a horrid farmer, worse than Cletus, when he was younger. He believed that was nothing but a myth, but as he’s older now, he’s started to believe it. Was Cletus treating them well to entice them to let their guard down? Cage had an urge to run up straight to Cletus and ask his flurry of questions, but his instincts stopped him from doing so. He rushed outside, to alert every single one of his coworkers, where they all had the same reaction as Cage.

Chapter 7: The Overground Railroad

“C’mon guys. We need to formulate a plan to get outta here. If we don’t, all we’re gonna do for the rest of our lives are just working,” Cage stated. The others started to see his leadership and appointed him as a leader. Even though they’ve been together for years, they rarely spoke with each other and did things themselves. There were 4 other boys: a pair of twins (Aiden and Caleb), a skinny and shy kid (Leonard), and a determined and persistent guy, Waco. Cage knew that he shouldn’t stereotype anyone, but he asked Leornard to be the planmaker, Waco to be the grit-and-grind worker, and Aiden and Caleb to be the team glue to stick together.

Leonard drew out a blueprint of the farm, which consisted of the finished pond and towers they worked on. On the side where Cage built the pond, there was the animal houses. Horse stables, a big cage for the chickens, and Cage’s favorite, a muddy room with pigs.

Every other day, Cage visits the animals, especially one pig, who Cage named Scooter. There was an installed minecart railroad on the edge of the farm, which was used for Cletus to ship things to the nearest farm. The minecart was an electric powered vehicle that could fit up to 7 people, which easily allowed the boys to get in. Perfect. The only problem was: getting there. The rocky climb to the minecart was a slight problem, but the worst was Cletus. Cletus had a rifle that was a grab-and-go in his cabin, and everyone knew they did not want to get shot by that. The only method was to go while Cletus was sleeping, and lock him in. The lock would inevitably be broken by Cletus, but be able to keep him in for enough time. The plan was set, and everybody went to their work. The plan would be initiated at night when the sun sets, and they are relieved from work.

Chapter 8: Midnight Wonders

Cage threw himself onto his bed, his mind near exploding. His rush of thoughts came up to him, and he felt like a 4-year-old asking questions furiously. He had been here for basically all he could remember. Who and where was he before he came here? His most vivid memory before arriving at Cletus was him crying for his lost toy, years and years ago. Escaping would turn his life totally around, whether for the good or bad. He knew that the others would have the same perspective, as they all would want to live better and more independent lives.
