Just this Thursday, Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas claimed that they will place a 1,000-foot-long floating barrier made up of buoys in between the US and Mexico in order to prevent illegal immigration. Gov. Abbott declares that they can expand the barrier if needed, stating it will be effective in stopping large crowds and gatherings of illegal immigrants.
The announcement was one of the latest efforts to bring attention to the fact that too many illegal immigrants have been trying to seek shelter in the United States.
On Wednesday, the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, flew three dozen immigrants from Texas to California to take a stand against the so called “immigrant friendly” policies that had convinced so many people to move there.
Mr. Abbott has requested for dozens of states to have police and/or coast guard to be on the lookout for any illegal immigrants. Texas has already spent 5.1 billion dollars to provide for the police and coast guards.
Many people are pleased with Mr. Abbott’s efforts, including Rolando Salinas Jr, Mayor of the City of Eagle Pass in Texas. He stated, “if this means less people will be crossing illegally through the heart of Eagle Pass, we support it. We want to avoid any interruption to our international bridges and our downtown businesses.”
