Scientists in Melbourne, Australia have made a significant discovery that could save millions of lives worldwide by revealing how the common bacteria known as golden staph turns deadly.

Golden Staph is a bacterium that often lives on skin and in noses. The team’s ground-breaking discovery was published in the online medical journal eLife under the direction of Abdou Hachani, a senior researcher* at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity at the University of Melbourne. The Doherty Institute team revealed for the first time how golden staph may evade the immune system by hiding inside human cells.
